AGM had hopeful politicians and lots of Info

If you missed this years Annual General Meeting, which had perfect summer weather, then you missed hearing views and answers from 7 candidates for the fall elections. There were local newspaper reporters in attendance and followup articles you can check out for details.

Here are some shots of the candidates, our annual donation to the Health Services and the real boss telling us what we need to know.

Lots of summer activities you can do on our lake but one that is not so common if Kite Boarding. Here is a picture of Marc Koecher doing just that.

E-Waste Day Haliburton

Electronic waste day is coming up on July 24th. You can take a multitude of electronics for recycling to make sure things like Mercury, do not get into the water table. Here is a link to the details.

MARKER BOUY UPDATE FOR THIS YEAR.

A note here from Bill Lithgow.

Our markers are in place for the boating season. This year our executive approved leaving the winter round balls in place to mark the channel. These balls are correctly marked and will assist safe boating on Canning Lake.

Thank you to the volunteers who assist myself and Dave Houlding in maintaining the proper placement and maintenance of the buoys. I appreciate the phone calls from our members when an issue develops with one of the markers.

This year we have people in the immediate areas of the markers to assist. In the Ingoldsby channel, if there are any issues, please contact Kurt Andre at 286-6824 or Paul Riddolls at 286-2451. In the Minden Arm (also known as Little Canning) channel, if there are any issues, please contact Dave Houlding at 286-4287. I have a second volunteer, Harold, who lives in the channel but his information is not available at this time.

I am still available to receive phone calls to provide assistance. My number is 286-1639.

Don't forget to check the Archives page and News pages for things you might have missed from last year.

Do you check the Federation of Ontario Cottagers' Associations web pages for interesting information, workshops and events they host. Some of these workshops are put on by experts who could profit from them if they get your business, but FOCA does a good job of making sure you are presented with factual information and not a sales pitch. You will not be under any pressure to buy anything and you can gain knowledge you might find difficult to gather in other venues. One such workshop is the cottage succession one they will be presenting in Haliburton this July. Here is the web link, http://foca.on.ca/cottage-succession , if you are interested in this or other programs FOCA offers.

PICTURE OF THE PAST

Did you know that Canning Lake had its own pennant? Maybe you don't even remember the pennants you could buy as souvenirs almost everywhere you could travel in North America. But at one time, last century, you could buy a pennant of Canning lake and even Ingoldsby. Here is a scan of the Canning lake version, showing the fishing theme from the 1950s. Sure looks like a whopper. A picture of an Ingoldsby pennant coming next.
